2017 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Barbour County finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-9 record. Last year Barbour County finished seventh in Class 2A region two with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Barbour County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Jaguars want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.2 points a game. Barbour County struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 39.8 points a game. The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-19 record. Since 2010, Barbour County has gone a combined 23-49. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 17 seasons, Barbour County has not won much with a record of 49-124. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 2A and 354th in the AHSAA. The Jaguars have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Chris Reynolds leaves Barbour County after three seasons without recording a single win. His record was 0-29. Steve Fryer takes on the difficult task of turning around the fortunes at Barbour County. The team has not won a game since the 2013 season. The Barbour County Jaguars will play in Class 2A region two during the 2017 season. The Jaguars have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 55-46 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 2A and 96th in the AHSAA. The Jaguars enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 32 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Jaguars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Barbour County will be to simply win some games. The Jaguars open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Randolph County on Friday, September 1 at Hulond Humphries Stadium. Last year the Randolph County Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in third place in Class 3A region five. The Tigers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Ohatchee by a score of 31-0. Barbour County and Randolph County have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 0-2-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Randolph County winning by a score of 41-6. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
